1/17/12 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Terry Amsted of Brunswick works in the L.L.Bean manufacturing facility in Brunswick on Tuesday after ceremonies to kick off the 100th birthday began with the unveiling of the Bootmobile. .Among other, company CEO Chris McCormick came on Tuesday to kick off the 100th anniversary celebrations -- and break in the size 747 boot for it's cross-country trip. The Bootmobile, a size 747 replica of the Maine Hunting Shoe, is made from fiberglass and mounted on top of a biodiesel-fueled truck. The plan is to drive it to New York and other places in the US to celebrate L.L.Bean's 100th year in business. The tour started Tuesday at the Brunswick Manufacturing facility where boots, bags, bikes and skis are assembled. McCormick said with a laugh,"Ooh, I'm not driving it. Imagine the headlines - CEO crashes Bootmobile." The bootmobile is piloted by Ian Bechtel of Portland Ore, a professional driver and tour operator. Photo by Roger S. Duncan. ..
