As a young Sailor Wilkie served at NAS Brunswick when the base opened on April 15, 1943 as a training area for British pilots. Garreton, a native of Peru, teaches the dance as an aerobic exercise class in many places through the midcoast area.   • 11/9/10 -- WEST BATH, Maine. Asplundh Tree Crew Foreman Mike Lord cuts off a section of tree trunk which was hanging over the top of a power line on Tuesday afternoon on Butler Head in West Bath.  Tree and electrical crews from as far away as New York State spread across the Mid-Coast Region on Monday and Tuesday, cleaning up storm damage. Power was restored to nearly all customers by the end of the day, Tuesday.  Lord said, "Our whole goal is to get these trees down without damage to the wires -- or the homeowners property." A fellow Asplundh foreman, Mike Morris said, "There were over 100 broken poles in this area -- that's what takes a long time [to repair]."   Roger S. Duncan / For The Forecaster.

  • 7/22/07 -- BATH, Maine.   As part of Maine Open Farm Day, Hawkes Farm in Bath welcomed children of all ages. Open Farm Day is sponsored by Maine's "Get Real Get Maine" program and is annually held on the 4th Sunday in July. The farm, family operated for over 40 years by Marjorie and Edward Hawkes and their family, provides a wide variety of cut and live flowers for many mid-coast resorts, hotels and towns.
