  • BRUNSWICK, Maine -- 12/21/15 -- About 45 volunteers, friends and guests of Tedford Housing, a homeless shelter and support organization in Brunswick came together for a remembrance service for guests and friends who passed away this year. The gathering was Tedford's part of  the National Homeless Person Memorial Service, a national event held annually on the Winter Solstice since 1990. Tedford Housing has participated since 2006. In order to make this picture the photographer befriended a young man who asked the Ahadi if the photographer could make the picture. She agreed. Djiboutian women are very shy and deferent to men in most cases. It is considered rude to look at women and speaking to them is also considered inappropriate. <br />

Nearby, as part of Exercise Natural Fire, over 2000 sheep and goats were vaccinated against Sheep Pox and Pleural Pneumonia today at a Veterinary Civil Assistance Project (VETCAP) operated by U.S., Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan veterinarians and doctors.  <br />
Natural Fire 2006, a 10-day multi-lateral training exercise involving Kenyan, Tanzanian, Ugandan and United States service members, ran Aug. 8-19 and was the largest combined exercise between Eastern African Community nations and the U.S to date. The exercise provided medical, civil and engineering civic affairs programs to rural areas in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya as well as held military to military training exercises, which helped all participants better respond to humanitarian crises.   • PORTLAND, Maine  11/15/18 --  Luke Lermond, a member of the Forestry Section of Portland’s Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department, cuts this year's Christmas tree from the front yard of the South Portland Fire department at Cash Corner.  The fire Department donated a 40-foot blue spruce to the city of Portland as this year's Christmas tree.  <br />
Crews from Portland cut and prepared the tree to be set in a storm drain in the center of Monument Square.  Keeley Crane Services and Shaw Brothers Construction donated staff, crane, and transportation services.<br />
Later this week, the tree will be lit with over 5,000 LED lights at the Monument Square Tree Lighting on Friday, November 23 at 5:00 p.m.<br />

  • PORTLAND, Maine  11/15/18 --  Luke Lermond, center, and colleagues from the Forestry Section of Portland’s Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department, tie down this year's Christmas tree on a flatbed truck after cutting it from the lawn near the South Portland Fire Department at Cash Corner.  The fire department donated a 40-foot blue spruce to the city of Portland as this year's Christmas tree.  <br />
Crews from Portland cut and prepared the tree to be set in a storm drain in the center of Monument Square.  Keeley Crane Services and Shaw Brothers Construction donated staff, crane, and transportation services.<br />
Later this week, the tree will be lit with over 5,000 LED lights at the Monument Square Tree Lighting on Friday, November 23 at 5:00 p.m.<br />

Dr. Peter McGuire, founder of Oasis Health Network, a free health care network in Brunswick says, "It's not that we are trying to do a better job than other practitioners, it's that we can -- because we don't have the overhead." Using lent space, volunteer staff and donated medications, Oasis doctors and staff see about 800 different people each year - in 2,800 visits.
