  • 4/27/11 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Eliot Pitney, Coach of Bowdoin Women's Crew, drills his team on the new Meadows river in late April. Pitney has coached at Bowdoin for the last 4 years. and before that at Bates.  "This time of year," he says, " I'm ready to quit -- I'm just exhausted. But, give me a week off and then I'm right back at it -- ready to go for fall!"  Pitney, also working on a  Master's in Mechanical Engineering puts in about 12 hours a week on the water - not including trips to and from races. "It gets in your blood," he says of rowing.   • 4/5/09 -- BRUNSWICK, Maine. Professional belly dancer Nyiesha DeLima of Saco leads a local group of student dancers in a rhythmic motion routine as part of a Belly Dance Community food raising event at Bath Elks Lodge on Saturday.  The group is made up of women of all ages and skill levels. <br />
DeLima has danced in Las Vegas and on other national stages. She shared her time to help raise money for charity and provide inspiration for others.  Photo by Roger S. Duncan.

  • Ahadi Mohammed, 13, is shy but was willing to be photographed.  In order to make this picture the photographer befriended a young man who asked the Ahadi if the photographer could make the picture. She agreed. Djiboutian women are very shy and deferent to men in most cases. It is considered rude to look at women and speaking to them is also considered inappropriate. <br />
U.S. Military service members visited  Alaili Dadda, Ahadi's village of 300 near Obok, Djibouti to assess the difficulty of drilling a well here. The long term goal is to provide running water to a local clinic.  U.S. Navy Photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Roger S. Duncan. (RELEASED)

  • 5/31/09 -- BATH, Maine. Jen Rohde of Cumberland closes in on the finish line at the Bath Y Tri on Sunday morning. The Triathalon drew nearly 200 participants and over 100 volunteers to the Bath YMCA. Winners were Kurt Perham for the men and Alicia Trott, both of Brunswick.
